No document is uploaded. This can be independently verified.

Comparable services transmit your file to a server and undertake to delete it subsequently. PaperJET has no server to which a document could be sent: the tools are compiled to WebAssembly and execute within this browser tab, on your own device. Nothing is queued, nothing is capped, and the work continues if you go offline after the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

Are documents uploaded to a server?

No. Every tool executes within your own browser using WebAssembly. The file is read from local storage by the browser and is not transmitted, so no server holds a copy of it. This may be verified by disconnecting from the network once the page has loaded; the tools continue to function normally.

Is PaperJET free to use?

Yes. All tools are provided free of charge, with no account required, no watermark applied and no file size limit.

Can a scanned PDF be processed?

Yes. The OCR tool reads the text from a scan and can return the same scan with an invisible text layer applied, so that the document appears unchanged while becoming searchable and available for copying.

Can a PDF be converted to Word or Excel?

Yes, where the PDF already contains text. Where the file is a scan, the OCR tool should be used instead; the interface will indicate which case applies.

Is there a file size limit?

No. As processing is performed on your own device rather than on a server, the constraint is the available memory of that device rather than an upload cap.

Crop a PDF

Trims the margins from every page — the black edge left by a scanner, or the dark gutter down the middle of a scanned book. Nothing is deleted and nothing is re-rendered: the crop sets the area of the page that is displayed, so the content beyond it simply ceases to be shown and can be restored later.

How to crop a PDF

  1. Open the PDF.
  2. Set the margins to trim. They are expressed as percentages, so one setting suits A4, Letter and a receipt alike.
  3. Apply, and save.
Reversible, because nothing is destroyed

Cropping sets the crop box rather than cutting the page. The content outside it still exists in the file and the crop can be undone, which is not the case with tools that re-render the page at its new size.

Margins are given as a proportion of the page, so the same setting works across mixed page sizes in one document instead of needing separate values for each.

Questions about cropping

Is the PDF uploaded to crop it?

No. The crop is applied in this browser tab and the document is never transmitted.

Is the cropped content deleted?

No. The crop box determines what is displayed; the content outside it remains in the file. That makes the operation reversible, but it also means cropping should not be used to conceal information — use Redact for that.

Can I remove the black edge from a scan?

Yes, that is the common use. Set the margins to trim past the scanner edge and it will no longer be displayed.

Does cropping reduce quality?

No. Pages are not re-rendered, so the visible content is exactly as sharp as it was.
