No document is uploaded. This can be independently verified.
Comparable services transmit your file to a server and undertake to delete it subsequently. PaperJET has no server to which a document could be sent: the tools are compiled to WebAssembly and execute within this browser tab, on your own device. Nothing is queued, nothing is capped, and the work continues if you go offline after the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions
Are documents uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool executes within your own browser using WebAssembly. The file is read from local storage by the browser and is not transmitted, so no server holds a copy of it. This may be verified by disconnecting from the network once the page has loaded; the tools continue to function normally.
Is PaperJET free to use?
Yes. All tools are provided free of charge, with no account required, no watermark applied and no file size limit.
Can a scanned PDF be processed?
Yes. The OCR tool reads the text from a scan and can return the same scan with an invisible text layer applied, so that the document appears unchanged while becoming searchable and available for copying.
Can a PDF be converted to Word or Excel?
Yes, where the PDF already contains text. Where the file is a scan, the OCR tool should be used instead; the interface will indicate which case applies.
Is there a file size limit?
No. As processing is performed on your own device rather than on a server, the constraint is the available memory of that device rather than an upload cap.
Split a PDF
Divides a document into parts, extracts the pages you want to keep, or removes the ones you do not. Pages are transferred exactly as they were: nothing is re-rendered, so the pages that come out are byte-for-byte identical to the pages that went in. The work is done in this browser tab and the document is never transmitted.
How to split a PDF
- Open the PDF. Every page is shown as a thumbnail.
- Select the pages on the grid, or type a range such as 1-3, 7, 12- in the box.
- Split, and save the result. The original file on your disk is untouched.
The retained pages are copied across as they stand rather than redrawn. Text stays selectable, images keep their original quality, and a signed or certified page is not disturbed.
For a long document, typing 1-3, 7, 12- is faster than picking thumbnails. A trailing dash means "to the end".
Questions about splitting a PDF
Is the PDF uploaded in order to split it?
No. Splitting runs inside this browser tab. The file is read from your own device and is not transmitted, so no server holds a copy of it.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. The operation copies existing page objects into a new document without re-rendering them, so the output pages are identical to the originals.
Can I extract a range such as pages 5 to 20?
Yes. Type 5-20 in the range box. Several ranges can be combined, for example 1-3, 7, 12-, where the trailing dash means from that page to the end.
How do I remove pages instead of keeping them?
Use the Remove pages tool, which is the same operation inverted: the pages you select are the ones discarded, and everything else is copied across unchanged.
